Clamming up

THAT DOES IT - Korina Sanchez - The Freeman

Linconn Ong, the director of Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp., will no longer cooperate with the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee's investigation on the advice of his lawyer. And who advised him? None other than the controversial Ferdinand Topacio. According to Topacio, the Senate investigation was "not a fair forum" and called it a kangaroo court. The senators did not take his comments well. Senator Lacson labels him an ambulance chaser.

Topacio's statements are a lot coming from one who idolizes Adolf Hitler. He idolizes him to the point of having a large portrait of the lunatic in his office. Creepy. He claims Hitler was not a bad person, in fact, a very good leader. Germany he says became a modern country under his leadership. Germany almost became the most powerful country because of him. Of course. He invaded his neighbors one by one because he was obsessed with power and want to form the "master race". He wanted to control the whole of Europe and even Russia. Topacio does not seem to read history or denies all the wrongdoings of Hitler during World War II.

Hitler's evil persona was clear. He ordered the murder of his perceived political opponents in the early years of his government, claiming he averted a coup and decided to dispense justice himself. This was known as the “Night of the Long Knives”. The official number of those killed is at 85, but many say as many as a thousand were murdered. Those perceived to be against him were arrested. Hitler gained the support of the military in this crime. Sounds eerily familiar to some extent.

According to Topacio, Hitler was not behind the killing of six million Jews during the war. Again, his grasp of history is skewed. From the very beginning of his rise to power, Hitler despised the Jews. One can easily find what he did to persecute the Jews systematically. Some of those who were able to flee his atrocities found their way into the country which readily accepted them. As a token of Israel's gratitude for what the Philippines did, Filipinos wanting to visit Israel do not need a visa to this day.

Topacio being Hitler's apologist is unbelievable. He is a historical revisionist much like the Marcoses. He even called former president Noynoy Aquino a dictator. Rich. If Ong decides to heed Topacio's advice and clam up, he will remain under arrest for contempt. Ong already made statements under oath which the committee can use in piling the evidence. His statements along with those of Krizle Grace Mago who has become incommunicado after blowing the whistle on Pharmally's supposed "swindling of the government" are substantial enough to warrant further digging. Maybe government brown-shirts are now searching for her. The Palace's livid reaction to the investigation speaks volumes.
