Biado bested countryman Jordan Banares, 13-6, in an all-Pinoy title showdown to rule the

Abu Dhabi Open 9-Ball Championship early Friday morning, November 12, at the Power Break Billiard Hall in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“I’m very happy to win again, especially in an international tournament like this Abu Dhabi Open 9-Ball Championship. Maagang Pasko ito,” said Biado.

The 2017 World 9-Ball king topped the 64-man field undefeated, outlasting Mohamad Eiljeffrey of UAE, 9-0, and Arnel Bautista, 9-7, in the early rounds.

Biado subdued Venancio Tanio (11-4) in the Round of 16, ousted Roland Garcia (11-5) in the quarterfinals, and then kicked out Harry Vergara, 11-8, to set up a final clash with Banares, who overcame Bautista in the semis, 11-7.

Aside from snaring the coveted crown, the San Juan, La Union-native Biado also pocketed 20,000 AED (P272,800) in cash prize while Banares took home 10,000 AED (P136,400).

Biado’s triumph in Abu Dhabi came seven weeks after he dominated the US Open Pool Championship in Atlantic City, New Jersey last September 19. He became only the second Filipino to top the prestigious event, 27 years after Efren “Bata” Reyes first pulled the feat in 1994. — EBV
