CEBU, Philippines —  The Olympic-size swimming pool of the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) will reopen next week in time for the 2024 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet.

This was announced by Cebu City Sports Commission chairman John Pages on his Facebook page.

Pages said the state-of-the-art facility includes a brand-new (Pentair) filtration systems, international-standard starting blocks, and anti-wave lane lines.

It also has new shower rooms and a 25-meter warm-up pool, replacing the old kiddie pool.

Private donors funded the pool namely Joe and Franco Soberano of the Cebu Landmasters, Inc., Atty. Augusto “Gus” W. Go of the  University of Cebu (UC), and James Co of Cebu Home and Builders Centre among others.

The CCSC pool rehabilitation is one of several sports projects across the Queen City of the South as it prepares to host the 64th Palarong Pambansa this July 6-16.

The last time that the prestigious event was held in Cebu was way back in 1994 or 30 years ago.

Prior to the Palaro, Cebu City will play host to the CVIRAA Meet slated on May 4-9.

It’s the first time in a decade that the city will be staging the week-long sports conclave featuring over 9,000 student-athletes from 20 schools division all over the region. — (FREEMAN)
