St. Ignatius Run goes virtual, and global

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Adapting to the new normal, the St. Ignatius Run will make a grand comeback in the running scene next month.

This time virtual, and global.

In a statement, the organizing Batch 1995 of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Alumni Association said their charity event for the benefit of SHS-AdC Scholarship Fund was supposedly set to be held last year in time for their Silver Jubilee but they were forced to postpone it because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Billed as the “Global Virtual St. Ignatius Run: La Carrera De San Ignacio, the virtual race for a cause features five categories:1K, 3K, 6K, 12K, and 21K for both men’s and women’s division.

Runners can choose to run anywhere at any time and at their own pace as long as they run between the dates of March 1 to 15, 2021. The good thing is that they can run the distance they are registered to on a staggered basis.

Participants are advised to strictly observe health and safety protocols, to be fully-aware of the actual and potential risks of joining the event, and to be fully responsible for their actions while completing the virtual run.

“This year’s virtual race is meant to ensure the safety of runners who still want to run in the new normal as well as to open this charity run to the rest of the world,” said Fritz Co of SHS-AdC Batch ‘95 who is also the race director.

Over P250,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs in the raffle draw. The grand prizes include a Kawasaki Motorcycle unit and two Garmin Fenix 6 multi-sport fitness watch.

Asahi appliances, Asics shoes, UV light, wireless earphones, restaurant gift certificates, and other items will also be raffled off daily.

Entry fee is pegged at P950 for all categories inclusive of a fully sublimated St. Ignatius Run 2020 t-shirt, trucker cap, shoe bag, and minimalist face mask. Registration period is from February 9 until 28.

The first 100 runners to register will also receive N95 masks while the first 300 registrants will get Air Spencer car fresheners.
