CEBU, Philippines - The streaking University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will try to extend their best start in recent memory to 3-0 as they take on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the lone collegiate division match of the 17th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men's basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

If victorious in their 5:30 p.m. duel with the Panthers, the Jaguars will join fellow unbeaten University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors atop the leaderboard.

The Jaguars are favored against the Panthers, who until now cannot capitalize on the presence of their 6-foot-9 Nigerian import Rich Managor.

Coach Jun Noel may not have tapped a foreign reinforcement for the Jaguars, something that he is already used to, but his locals have been playing consistent basketball that largely contributed to their early success.

Special mention goes to Jaybie Mantilla, Nelvin Navarra, RJ Dinolan, Miguel Gastador, Victor Munez, Ricky Perominan, Kido Cabrera and Albert Catiloc. They have been the reasons behind USJ-R's hot run.

While Managor continues to evade the limelight, the likes of Lyndon Colina, Roy Quiachon, Clyde Avancena, Edwin Villarta, Kenneth Cada, Mike Patalinghug and John Alocillo must step up to end the Panthers' slump. They have been winless in two games since posting a 82-72 triumph over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats last August 6.

In the juniors division, the University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters seek to snap out of their two-game jinx as they go up against the CIT-U Wildkittens (0-3) in a battle of winless teams at 2:30 pm.

The Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons and the Don Bosco Greywolves shoot for their second victory when they take on each other in the 1 p.m. opener, while the 2-1 Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU) Baby Cobras will clash with the 1-1 USC Baby Warriors in the third game at 4pm. (FREEMAN)
