CEBU, Philippines - Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Colegio de Sta. Ana-Victorias scored easy wins on Day 2 of the San Remigio Properties-Magis Eagles International Friendship Games at the Magis Eagles Arena of SHS-Ateneo de Cebu in Canduman, Mandaue City.

SHS-Ateneo cruised to a 97-58 win over National Yin-Lan Senior High School of Taiwan while CSAV stopped the Pinoy Youth Dreamers, 84-77.

The Magis Eagles pulled off a relatively easy win in what was expected to be a close game, owing to the games between the two schools since 2014.

They started out hot, taking a 20-10 lead after the first period but the Taiwanese charged back to slice the lead to 40-31 at halftime. The hosts broke the game wide open in the third quarter, using a crippling full-court press to cause turnovers and building a 64-50 lead.

The surge carried over to the fourth quarter with the bench taking over and delivering the goods for a well-balanced attack. Andrew Velasco led the Magis Eagles with 21 points while Christian Manaytay added 14.  Yin-Lan was led by Pin Yee Li’s 13 points and Chen Fu Kuo who had 11.

In the other game, CSAV bounced back from its opening day loss to score a resounding win, leading all the way from start to finish over the younger but hard-working PYD side. After taking a 25-17 first quarter lead, the team from Victorias built a 47-34 halftime lead.

PYD never allowed CSAV to pull away staying with striking distance but is deficit in size was too much to overcome. Jeffrey Manday had a tournament-high 28 points to lead CSAV. PYD was led by Migui Rodriguez (16), Dan Geronimo & Carlos Lumpas (15 each).

CSAV needs to win over the Taiwan team to barge into the finals and possibly face SHS-Ateneo de Cebu which is expected to win over PYD. Team standings: SHS-Ateneo (2-0), CSAV (1-1), Yin-Lan (1-1), PYD (0-2). (FREEMAN)
