Firefighters undergo wildlife MGT training

Romeo Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Personnel of the Cebu City Fire Department have undergone training on how to properly rescue wild animals.

Personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 conducted the Wildlife Management Training for firefighters at the Pari-an Fire Sub-Station.

According to Senior Fire Officer 2 Wendell Villanueva, the work of the fire department is not only to respond to fires, but also to alarms such as incidents involving wildlife rescue.

For several occasions, Cebu City Fire Office personnel rescued snakes which they would immediately hand over to the DENR.

The director of the Cebu City Fire Office, Superintendent Reynaldo Enoc, saw the need for his people to know about the proper rescue of wild animals so they collaborated with the DENR to educate the fire department.

“Sayod man kita nga for the past weeks grabe kay ang uwan, tungod sa uwan grabe ang buhi unya posible tungod sa baha nanggawas ang mga bitin mao na og wala ko masayop more than five na nga insidente nga nakadakop atong kabomberohan nga itawag sa atong publiko nga dunay bitin sa ilang lugar”said SFO2 Villanueva.

The Cebu City Fire Office has ten Fire Sub-Stations and each sub-station sends two representatives for the Wildlife Management Training.

However, SFO2 Villanueva clarified that those who participated in the training will share their knowledge with their fellow firefighters so that they would also know what to do.

“Matag station og dunay panghitabo nga ingon within their AOR kami nay moresponde, manawag dayon ta sa DENR ug sa Cebu City Government para ma facilitate ang pag-rescue ug paghipos sa wildlife,” said Villanueva. — (FREEMAN)
