CEBU, Philippines — A 28-year-old man was arrested by police after he allegedly stole a fighting cock from a coop in Barangay Tuyan, City of Naga, Cebu, on Thursday morning, October 15.

The suspect, Iries Phil James Patria, 28, a resident of Suba 1 in the same barangay, was arrested around 11:30 A.M. by personnel of the Naga City Police Station following a hot pursuit operation.

The incident was reported by the rooster’s owner, identified as alias “Ronie,” 58, married and a resident of Suba 2, Barangay Tuyan, after his three-year-old fighting cock, known as “Bandilaan”, went missing.

According to the report, the rooster’s handler noticed at around 7 A.M. that the animal was no longer inside its coop.

The owner then went to the barangay hall to review closed-circuit television footage. The recording reportedly showed a man approaching the coop and leaving shortly afterward with the rooster.

Police subsequently conducted a hot pursuit operation that resulted in Patria’s arrest later that morning.

During a follow-up operation to locate the missing rooster, police learned that it had allegedly been sold in an undisclosed location in Barangay Pardo, Cebu City.

A complaint for theft is now being prepared against the suspect, according to the report. -
