“White lady” also ‘works, lives’ at CCPO

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The story of a “white lady” who may have reportedly sought permanent residency in the offices of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) along Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City would not just die down.

The white lady reportedly sometimes passes through cemented walls and occasionally taps police personnel who have dozed off during the wee hours of the night to remind them that, indeed, they are not alone.

The CCPO, or the Camp Sotero Cabahug, appears to be just a normal headquarters, housing over 13 different police offices. What lies beyond its gates, however, are stories of paranormal events that Cebu City policemen are very familiar of.

Based on the accounts of some CCPO personnel, strange things and unexplainable events would occasionally happen to them.

Elner “Ram-ram” Harapan, 52, an all-around helper in the camp for 30 years, said he has witnessed strange activities caused by the remnants of the underworld.

He said there is a white lady who restlessly passes through the walls of the offices.

“Magpakita sa opisina, magpakita og kalit.  Mokalit ug sulod.  Nakakita na gyud ko niya, babae nya taas ug buhok, gaputi,” Harapan said.

He said that there are times even when the white lady pokes fun at him when he suddenly loses balance, as if someone is pushing him when he is actually alone.

He said that there are a lot of other spirits at the CCPO.  However, the other spirits seem to be just visitors and would just pass by, unlike the white lady.

One afternoon, when he was running an errand around the lot, he heard a devilish murmur that jolted him, as he ran as fast as he could.

Whenever the clock strikes past midnight, there are times when cars that are impounded inside the compound as evidence would suddenly light up as if someone is driving.

Some personnel from the Investigation and Detective Management Branch have also experienced when they can hear footsteps in the office when no one was actually around.

Harapan said that the white lady sometimes would also move or make some utensils sound.  Sometimes, the white lady would also cause the slamming of the doors.

Police Officer 3 Ruth Violango of the Homicide Section even said that there was one time when she slept alone on a wooden bench inside the office when she heard her fellow officer call her out.

Feeling so tired, she did not mind her colleague and she continued sleeping.

A few seconds, however, she felt someone pushed her. This time, realizing that she was just alone, thought that the spirits might have played with her.  So, she decided to get up and move to a place that there are other police officers.

Harapan said that back in 1988, when he first stepped inside as a helper of Cebu City Police Office, which was then called as Philippine Constabulary-Integrated National Police, veteran policemen had warned him of some spirits.

He said that a part of the compound was actually used as a morgue. In fact, bones were discovered when there were constructions made in the headquarters.

He said that the haunting may probably continue, since the white lady has long stayed in the compound.

Harapan continued that the story of the white lady had become so normal to him that seeing her at the guard house would no longer give him goose bumps.  And he would just laugh at those new police officers who seemed frightened of the paranormal stories at the CCPO. (FREEMAN)
