CEBU, Philippines - Two women, including a three-month pregnant, were stabbed dead by a skateboarder from Lapu-Lapu City in a beach resort in San Juan town, Siquijor Sunday evening.

The victims were identified as Nikki Pinero, 21, from Makati City and Loreen Ramirez, 17, from Dumaguete City. The suspect was Michael Manayon, 34, who was in Siquijor to join a skateboarding competition.

San Juan town police chief Inspector Joseph Berondo said the victims were also in Siquijor to witness the annual competition.

Initial investigation revealed that the victims were in the receiving area of Bruce Beach Resort when the suspect went inside the kitchen to drink water. Upon his return he started stabbing the victims who were nearest to him.

The other guests of the resort scampered for safety leaving the victims behind. Pinero, who was three months pregnant, died on the spot while Ramirez was declared dead by the attending physician at the Siquijor Provincial Hospital.

The suspect tried to escape after the incident but was arrested by the responding policemen. Manayon admitted to the crime and tried to commit suicide inside the detention cell by strangling himself with his shirt.

Manayon reportedly admitted to the police taking LSD party drugs which was allegedly given to him by another tourist from Manila.

The suspect said he was provoked by the victims, whom he claimed to have taken video of him and threatened to make it public. The police are still investigating the alleged party drugs and the unidentified person.

The police seized from the suspect six large packs of dried marijuana leaves estimated to be weighing half kilo. According to the police, Manayon may have been planning to sell marijuana in the area.

“Gabie, di nimo madoul, pagkahapon na murag nihupas na siguro to ang tama ma-istorya na, perti niya hilak nganong nahimo daw niya to,” said Berondo.

The police are preparing a string of criminal charges against the suspect. — Mae Clydyl L. Avila and Jojo Ugdol (FREEMAN)
