CEBU, Philippines - After more than two months of pre-pageant activities, the new shopping destination of the south has finally chosen its official ambassadors in a festive Mister and Miss South Town Centre 2016 maiden competition held November 26.

Jaron Jose Acha, 16 (Cebu Eastern College), and Kathyrene Kaye Rollins, 13 (University of San Jose Recoletos–Basak), got the judges’ nod and became the pageant’s first title-holders.

Rollins also grabbed most of the special and minor awards including Miss Talent, Miss Shoppers’ Choice, Miss White Aura, Miss Netizens’ Choice by D’ Beauty Wonderland and Miss Readers’ Choice. Acha, on the other hand, was awarded Mister Talent, Mister Shoppers’ Choice, Mister White Aura and Mister Netizens’ Choice by D’ Beauty Wonderland.

Completing their court are 18-year-old Gerome Josef Diaz (University of San Carlos–Talamban) and 13-year-old Amanda Basnillo (University of Southern Philippines Foundation–Lahug) as first runners-up, and 19-year-old Nhel Albon (University of Cebu–METC) and 14-year-old Rachelle Anne Tingal (University of San Jose Recoletos–Balamban) as second runners-up.

Diaz was also chosen Mister New Placenta and Best in Formal Wear, while Basnillo was Miss New Placenta and Best in Gown.Tingal was also awarded Miss Reponsibility.

Other special awardees included Southwestern University’s Samrulla Nazir (Mister Responsibility), Our Lady of the Pillar Academy – Sibonga’s Rob Julianne Gascon (Mister Congenuality), Royal Oaks International School–Mandaue’s Kiona Stroobants (Miss Congeniality), and University of Cebu–Main’s Johnritch Bejasa (Mister Readers’ Choice).

The other finalists were Jean Ivy Fuentes (Cebu Eastern College), James Clyde Balatayo (San Isidro Parish School–Talamban), Pearl Jean Pepito (Informatics Institute–Consolacion), Althea Mae Uy (Abellana National School) and Jewel Alexi Image (University of Cebu–Main).

Mister and Miss South Town Centre deviates from usual pageants. The candidates were judged holistically: beauty, brain, talent, attitude and academic achievements.

Limchua Development Corporation, the owner of South Town Centre, looked for the best Cebuano teen role models and achievers, who are beautiful in body, mind and spirit.

The lucky pair will work hand in hand with the mall’s administration in their advocacy project –a legacy they can leave long after their reign.

The pageant was written and directed by Razzure Nathan Zal, with Tita Grace Labunog, the mall’s operations manager as head organizer; Lemuel Rosos, official designer; Aaaron Paul Sunger, choreographer; and staff members Ruth Aguilar, Alnie Estrada, Jaded Garbo and Joanna Rose Garcia.  (FREEMAN)
