One-stop-shop for BPO workers

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government and Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDFIT) will soon open a one-stop-shop facility to ease the processing of documents of employees of the outsourcing industry.

BPO employees or applicants will no longer have to hop from one office to another in completing necessary documents as representatives from various government agencies will be converged in one place.

CEDFIT managing director Wilfredo Sa-a Jr., said that the Cebu City government is working with his organization in order to accelerate the opening of the one-stop-shop, as the outsourcing sector continues to boost the employment generation of the city.

Of the close to 200 thousand people working in the BPO industry in Cebu, majority are employed within Cebu City.

Sa-a said the opening of the one-stop-shop is part of the many programs that will be introduced by the Cebu City government to support the fast growing outsourcing sector in the city.

The Cebu City government is also participating in the ongoing program of CEDFIT and other private sector organizations called Learning English App for Pinoys (LEAP) among senior high students.

Sa-a said LEAP program is already running at the Apas National High School and soon more schools within Cebu City and other parts of the province will be introduced to this manpower capacity building for BPO.

College students in Cebu will also be introduced more aggressively in Service Management Program (SMP) Plus.

Sa-a added that the active participation of LGUs in Cebu, such as Cebu City government is crucial to the sustaining growth of BPO sector, specifically that more outsourcing giants are eyeing Cebu as their expansion sites once the Mactan International Airport Terminal 2 will be opened. (FREEMAN)
