“Sexy Chix” in our basket

Entering the field of healthy diet, Sexy Chix comes in cans and as frozen pieces. They are refreshing alternatives to the rich food that we have all been guilty of eating.

The word sexy has long been part of our language and consciousness. Initially the term evoked something negative, risqué. Through the years, sexy has taken on new meaning, as it began to be used to describe something attractively beautiful and pleasant.

San Miguel Purefoods has added the word to denote its latest chicken line, the Sexy Chix, going beyond the meaning of sexy and expanded it to mean “in,” trendy, cool and smart.

So how can chicken be all of that? Entering the field of healthy diet, Sexy Chix comes in cans and as frozen pieces. They are refreshing alternatives to the rich food that we have all been guilty of eating.

Take the canned selection of different variants which the home cook can use to produce salads (with the chunks), soups and pasta (arrabiata, etc). They take away the tedious task of starting these dishes from scratch.

Aside from the canned selection, frozen Sexy Chix are available. Again, this is ready to cook.

Who remembers Covelandia? That was a small resort in Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite which existed in the late 70s and early 80s. We remember driving to the place and partaking of their Filipino food served in an open tent. The resort has resurrected after a hiatus, to become a huge complex built on a 36-hectare land in the same area. It is now named Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park.

Facilities have been expanded tremendously, making it an ideal place for a fun day or weekend. Considering its location, Island Cove is easy to reach from the big city or elsewhere in its environs.

As it is now a hotel, guests, especially kids, can experience a rural adventure by staying overnight. Kids can spend the day in King Crawler’s playground, while elders swim in the Oceana and Swim Splash Park. If one wants to look at wildlife, there is the sanctuary with crocodiles and monkeys. Indoor-loving guests can use various game facilities.

And of course, there is the food. There are four food and beverage outlets serving food unique to the province of Cavite, like their famous oyster and mussels and lechon sa pugon.

In the Fishing Village, guests will be excited to get their favorite catch and have it cooked. From the iCafe, normal offerings are served plus the new sisig and adobo buns. Call Island Cove at (046)  434-0210.

On a sunny Friday, we decided to chill out (as the young say) in Tagaytay. On the road we bought nilagang mais (boiled corn) at P100 for six pieces, a kilo of small camote (sweet potatoes) and a bunch of sigadillas (wing beans) for P110, plus lanzones ( P110 a kilo) and mangoes (large for P100 a kilo). You need to make tawad (haggle) and the vendors will readily agree.
