Eala withdraws from Cincinnati Open due to injury

MANILA, Philippines — Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala has pulled out of next month’s Cincinnati Open due to a shoulder injury, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) said.
In a statement posted on its website, the WTA bared that Eala will not be competing in the final WTA 1000 event before the US Open.
The Cincinnati Open will run from August 7 to August 18.
In Eala’s place, Mexico’s Renata Zarazua will be in the main draw.
Eala, earlier this week, competed at the Omnium Banque Nationale in Montreal, Canada.
With kinesiology tape on her shoulder, she played against Marketa Vondrousova and took the first set, 6-3.
However, she dropped the second set, 1-6, and before the third set, she called for a medical timeout.
The Filipina, then, ran out of gas and absorbed a 2-6 defeat in the third frame to have an early exit from the Canadian Open.
In an Instagram post late Wednesday, Eala looked back on her Canadian Open run.
“Montreal was a short but sweet trip. I had so much fun out on court! Time to rest and recover,” her post read.
After the Cincinnati Open, Eala is expected to play in the Monterrey Open in Mexico.
