MANILA, Philippines — Rebisco Philippines played its best game thus far but it wasn’t enough to overcome AGMK of Uzbekistan and absorbe a 26-24, 23-25, 18-25, 19-25 loss in Pool B action in the 2021 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Champion in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand Saturday.

The Filipinos fell to their second straight setback following a 15-25, 22-25, 5-25 shellacking they received at the hands of the more experienced Fooland Sirjan of Iran in the opener the day before.

The defeat left Rebisco with no other choice but to sweep its last two remaining games against Al Arabi of Qatar today and unbeaten Diamond Food of Thailand tomorrow for the former to have a chance at snatching one of the two quarterfinal slots staked in their bracket.

The Iranians, meanwhile, improved to a 1-1 record.

But unlike the first outing, Rebisco came out with more fight on this one as it took the opening set by showing incredible grit and composure.

It couldn't sustain the same form and tenacity though and lost the final three sets to AGMK.

Joshua Umandal paced the Filipinos with 19 points, all coming off attacks, while Angelo Almendras scattered 14 hits including 12 off spikes and two on blocks.

Bunyod Egamkulov and Bunyodbek Khosinov unloaded 18 points apiece while Azbibek Kuchkorov and Sanjar Akhtamov chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively, for the Iran club.
