Cuban won’t do a Rigondeaux
LAS VEGAS – Yordenis Ugas of Cuba will not observe social-distancing inside the ring against Manny Pacquiao Saturday.
The 35-year-old, who is 26-4 since turning pro in 2010, said he’s a different boxer compared to his countryman, Guillermo Rigondeaux.
A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Rigondeaux fought Filipino WBO bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero last week in Carson, California.
The Cuban danced and was booed all night, and lost a split decision.
Ugas said he won’t do a Rigondeaux.
“Rigo is a very good fighter but I have a style that is completely different than his,” said Ugas, who tipped the scales yesterday at exactly 147 pounds.
Pacquiao showed up at 146 for the official weigh-in, which was closed to the public due to the alarming rise in new COVID-19 cases here.
Ugas is known as a boxer who fights toe-to-toe, and nothing should change at the T-Mobile Arena.
“Pacquiao always comes out strong in the first round. I always come out strong in the first round. So, we’re gonna go at it in the first round,” he promised.
Promises are meant to be broken.
