Parks ‘doubtful’ for Game 2
Inside the bubble
SMART CLARK GIGA CITY, Pampanga, Philippines — Statistical points leader Ray Parks Jr. is “highly doubtful” to play for TNT Tropang Giga in tomorrow’s critical Game 2 of the PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven finals.
The lefty gunner strained his left calf muscle in the series opener last Sunday, when the Tropang Giga fell short against Ginebra in overtime, 100-94.
“Ray is highly doubtful to play in Game 2. We are hoping he could play on Friday (Game 3),” said TNT management after Parks’ MRI result from the nearby Medical City Clark, an extension of the bubble here, came out late Sunday night.
According to Dex Aseron, conditioning coach and physical therapist of TNT, it was the same lingering injury that forced Parks to sit out TNT’s bubble debut against Alaska last Oct. 11. It took its toll on him after a two-month grind.
It’s a big blow for TNT, which has to find ways of filling the massive holes to be left by Parks after racking up conference norms of 22.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
In Game 1 alone, Parks, who hit the deck a couple of times, served as one of the few bright spots for TNT after braving the said injury to still finish with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists in 43 minutes of play before fouling out late in extra time.
