MANILA, Philippines — Whether or not there will be PBA action for the rest of COVID-disrupted 2020, the pro league is poised to conduct one of its original itineraries for the year – the rookie draft.

“We’ll still discuss the details but the rookie draft will either be in December or January,” PBA commissioner Willie Marcial told The STAR.

And if circumstances call for it, Marcial said the PBA is willing to do away with the usual practice of formally gathering all the applicants and the teams for the Season 46 draft.

“It actually depends because by that time maybe mass gathering is allowed already. But if the situation calls for it, we may do it virtual or just do it like in the D-League draft, where the players are not present,” he said.

Marcial said among the details to be decided on is the requirement for a PBA applicant to play in the D-League.

“There’s no D-League so there’s a possibility it (D-League stint) won’t be a pre-requisite for the draft. We’re looking at that,” he said.
