Goodwill Cup enters closing stage

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The seventh Goodwill Cup, an inter-club championship among Fil-Estate-owned golf courses, comes to a close on Sept. 6 with Camp John Hay (CJH) gunning for its first-ever crown at home.

“We are excited to host the tournament and hopefully win it,” said John Hay general manager Tim Allen. “Our hopes are high because we haven’t lost in our home course since the event started.”

Despite sweeping the first three legs, John Hay will enter the final stage with 100 points, ahead of Forest Hills and Sherwood Hills which are tied with 67.5 points apiece. The fourth team, Manila Southwoods, brings up the rear with 35 points.

The reset gives all four teams a chance to win the title depending on how John Hay will finish.

Forest Hills and Sherwood Hills can still win the crown if John Hay finishes no higher than third place.

Southwoods, on the other hand, can pull through a big comeback if John Hay ends up last in the final leg.

The two-day event calls for each club to field 20 designated players for every round to play against each other

The final round awards 100, 65, 45 and 20 to the finishers in that order.
