Eustaquio falls to Moraes, yields ONE Flyweight title
MANILA, Philippines – It was another losing night for Team Lakay at the ONE Championship: Hero's Ascent.
In ONE Championship's first trilogy fight, Geje Eustaquio lost to rival Adriano Moraes, yielding his flyweight title in the process.
Moraes was more aggressive throughout the bout and dominated Eustaquio on the ground.
Despite landing a few good hits, Eustaquio still fell short.
Team Lakay now only has two of the four titles they won in 2018.
Banario drops Grand Prix Quarterfinal on Tynanes' return
Honorio Banario was unable to recover after losing the grappling battle against Lowen Tynanes.
Struggling early on the ground, Banario wasn't able to escape Tynanes hold and was limited to a defensive fight.
But Banario's defense crumbled in the last few seconds of the opening round. Tynanes pounced with a flurry of hits to the Filipino's head.
The referee stopped the match before the bell, giving Tynanes the TKO win.
Kingad escapes Wada, moves on to World Grand Prix
Danny Kingad narrowly escaped Japanese opponent Tatsumitsu Wada and advanced to the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix in Japan.
Kingad got into trouble with Wada's takedowns but always recovered in time to retaliate with quality hits of his own.
Meanwhile, above the ground, Kingad was more aggressive. The Filipino landed hits on Wada's head and body throughout the match.
Kingad's victory marked the first win for Team Lakay in 2019.
