MANILA, Philippines – Alaska’s Fil-American guard Simon Enciso got off to a flying start in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup to earn the Cignal-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the period of August 20-26.

The 5-foot-11 Enciso kicked off the season-ending conference by averaging 20.5 points to help the Aces to a 2-0 record and a share of leadership with Phoenix.

In the Aces’ opening game for the conference, the spitfire Alaska guard contributed 11 points off the bench, to go along with three assists and a rebound as Alex Compton’s squad held off the Meralco Bolts, 80-72.

Two days later, Enciso caught fire early, sinking five 3-pointers in the opening quarter as Alaska humiliated a listless TNT side, 125-96.

The sweet-shooting Enciso finished the game with a PBA career-best 30 points, making 9-of-12 from 3-point zone that enabled the Aces to register a blowout victory over the KaTropa.

Selected 17th overall by NLEX in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft, the three-year PBA veteran guard’s nine 3-point shots were the most in a game since NorthPort’s Stanley Pringle did the trick during his 50-point outburst last June 22 in the Commissioner’s Cup against Columbian Dyip.

Enciso beat teammate Chris Banchero and Vic Manuel, Phoenix’s energetic forward Calvin Abueva and Jason Perkins, Blackwater wingman Allein Maliksi, along with Magnolia guard Mark Barroca for the weekly citation.

Alaska will be shooting for a third straight win this Wednesday when it faces Phoenix and former Aces forward Calvin Abueva at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
