Lions lash Stags, notch No. 6; Altas win
MANILA, Philippines — San Beda clamped down on San Sebastian’s gunners in the last quarter as the Red Lions pulled off a come-from-behind 65-54 victory over the Stags in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan last night.
Trailing majority of the way, the Lions held the Stags to just eight markers in the last 10 minutes while scoring 20 points of their own to stretch their win run to six and close in on fellow unbeaten Lyceum of the Phl U (7-0).
Javee Mocon and Cameroonian Donald Tankoua each came through with a double-double effort with the former finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds and the latter 12 points and 10 boards.
San Sebastian, which hung tough to lead in the middle quarters, closed out the first round elims with a 3-6 slate.
Earlier, rookie transferee Kim Aurin turned in a superb all-around effort while Nigerian Prince Eze dominated the paint as Perpetual Help fended off Mapua, 74-68, to grab solo third at 5-2.
