Curry blasts Sports Illustrated for leaving football player Kaepernick off cover

MANILA, Philippines — Now more than ever, sports personalities are using their reach and influence to air their stand on political issues.
It was evident from basketball to football that this week's Sports Illustrated cover is titled "A nation divided, sports united."
The cover features Golden State's Steph Curry locking arms with his rival Cleveland's LeBron James among other sports personalities.
While the cover exudes unity, it left a bad taste at the mouth of Curry, especially since football player Colin Kaepernick was left out.
"That was terrible. If you don't have (Kaepernick) front and center, something's wrong," Curry said.
The NFL player received attention when he refused to stand while the US national anthem was being sung as his protest for the oppression of people of color in the US.
Curry went further and said that he felt SI was just "capitalizing on the hoopla and the media and all that nonsense."
SI, however, clarified that Kaepernick was not there because they were focusing on the new voices that emerged over the weekend.
Curry recently made news when he said he will not visit the White House as part of their itinerary for winning the recent NBA season.
"It's not jut me going to the White House. If it was, this would be a pretty short conversation." he said.
This prompted President Donald Trump to lash out on him on Twitter.
Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!

Curry found an unlikely ally in rival James, who came to his defense in another tweet.
U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!
