Huelgas, Mangrobang strike gold as Philippines dominates SEAG triathlon
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines on Monday swept the triathlon events at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games courtesy of Nikko Huelgas and Kim Mangrobang.
Huelgas won his second straight SEAG men’s triathlon gold, clocking in at one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds. Behind him is a fellow Filipino, John Chicano, who finished in 2:03:24 for a silver medal.
Mangrobang, for her part, dethroned reigning champion Claire Adorna – who finished second – in the women’s triathlon for another 1-2 finish for the Philippines.
The triathlon victories pushed the Philippines’ gold medal count to three, with Mary Joy Tabal scoring the country’s first gold in the women’s marathon Saturday.
