Mangosong reigns in Lanao pro-Open, expert-Open moto
MANILA, Philippines - Bornok Mangosong ruled the Pro-Open and Expert-Open of the Lanao del Norte International Motocross and Night Supercross, Mindanao’s biggest motocross event, held Dec. 4-6 at the world-class Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) sports complex in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
The other winners in the event which drew 150 riders, including seven international competitors, were Hermes Bantoc (Executive-A), Popet Frias (Executive-B), Terence Napat (Novice-Open/Mini Class), RK Cuesta (Ladies) and Athoy Belican (Veterans).
The three-day event, hosted by the provincial government of Lanao del Norte, was in partnership with SEL-J Sports of Manila and featured death-defying stunts and jumps from well-known Freestyle riders like Bradley Robert Burch and Harry Paul Bink.
“This is the best motocross racetrack in the Philippines and it is at par with the best racetracks in Asia. This is the reason we keep coming back here to compete,” said Balazs Deczi of Hungary.
International riders who participated included Richard Austin Yorks, Dennis Stapleton, Austin Robert Howell and Jack Kristopher McNeice.
The mega-racing event saw motocross riders compete in the two racetracks – the motocross dirt track and the new supercross racetrack – put up by the provincial government through its provincial engineering office.
Among the categories riders competed in included Pro-Open, Expert-Open, Executive-A, Executive-B, Underbone Stock, Novice-Open, Power Enduro, Enduro 125, Mini Class, Ladies and Veterans.
It was also the first time Lanao del Norte LGU hosted a night supercross.
“Many came to watch the night supercross because there are more jumps in supercross compared to motocross. So it has more air time and riders can do some fancy tricks,” said information officer Lyndon Calica.
The provincial government also hosted the second Lanao del Norte Triathlon on Nov. 29, with more than 170 athletes from all over the country including seven national triathletes, competing.
Lanao del Norte has been acclaimed as the “Motocross Capital of the Philippines” by both motocross organizers and riders.
