Park, Carlos head elite Cangolf Am cast

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Three-peat seeking Park Min Ung banners a crack Korean contingent set to slug it out with the country’s leading players in the Canlubang Amateur Open, which fires off Oct. 7 at Cangolf’s South course in Laguna.

Park, who rallied with a two-under 70 at Cangolf’s north to squeeze out a one-stroke victory over now pro Tonton Asistio last year, has confirmed his participation in the 54-hole tournament which also features members of the national team.

That includes Jobim Carlos, Jelbert Gamolo, Rupert Zaragosa, Jan Philippe de Claro, Kristoffer Arevalo and Dan Cruz, ensuring a spirited battle for top honors in the 15th staging of the annual event hosted by Cangolf in its continuing commitment to help promote and develop the sport.

Registration is ongoing. Aside from the centerpiece Open to be disputed over 54 holes and the ladies division (36 holes), the event also features 36-hole competitions in Classes A (11-and-below), B (12-18) and C (19-and-above).

Fees are pegged at P3,000 (men’s Open), P2,800 (Classes A, B and C and ladies) and P1,000 for CGCC members, inclusive of a free practice round. Deadline for listup is on Oct. 2.

For details, call up Cangolf’s Makati office at (02) 897-6887 (Maite Tengco), fax (02) 890-9321 or email [email protected] or Cangolf’s Laguna office at (049) 543-2670 (Fely Anillo/Ann Dublado) or (049) 543-2640 to 43 loc. 231 or email [email protected]

Yuka Saso and Harmie Constantino, fresh from winning the Kartini Cup for Team Philippines in the recent Putra Cup, lead the field in the distaff side which is also expected to draw the participation of the members of The Country Club Team.

Park scrambled with a closing 70 and cashed in on erstwhile leader Gamolo’s final round meltdown to snatch a one-stroke victory over Asistio last year and retain the crown he won over top local player Rupert Zaragosa in 2013.

This year’s title chase is again expected to go down-to-the-wire with the South layout providing a different kind of challenge with wind expected to come into play.
