SWU seeks Vis-Min 2nd title vs USC

MANILA, Philippines - The CESAFI-Cebu and PCCL Overall Southern Islands best-of-five championship got under way yesterday with Southwestern U gunning for a second straight crown against University of San Carlos at the Cebu City Coliseum.

The championship series for the Visayas-Mindanao crown will be covered for the first time by ABS-CBN Sports and Action channel, Studio 23, which also telecasts the UAAP games.

Serving as appetizer for the championship series is the PCCL Vis-Min qualifying games.

Competing in these knockout games are University of Visayas, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and Holy Trinity College of General Santos.

The winner will advance to the Elite Eight phase of Champions League (PCCL) 2014 National Collegiate Championship.

Already assured of seats in the Elite Eight are UAAP teams Far Eastern University and National University, and USC and SWU of CESAFI.

The other seats are reserved for the top two NCAA teams and the winners of Luzon-Metro Manila and Vis-Min qualifying games.

Two more regional games are scheduled next month to determine the qualifiers for the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying games.

The South Luzon-Bicol games will be held on Nov. 3-4 at the J.C. Lobredo Coliseum, Naga City with champion teams from Sorsogon, Quezon province, Naga, Tabaco, Batangas, Cavite and Laguna seeing action.
