Superal seeks Southern Ladies 3-peat

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Newly crowned US Girls Juniors champion Princess Superal and the rest of the crack The Country Club squad have confirmed participation in the National Golf Association of the Philippines’ Southern Ladies Open presented by the MVP Sports Foundation firing off next Wednesday at Apo Golf in Davao.

The 17-year-old Superal is fancied to dominate the 54-hole tournament and stretch her domination of the annual championship for the third straight year although her ICTSI teammates will be out to foil her bid in the event serving as part of the PLDT Group Amateur Tour.

They include Abegail Arevalo, who won a junior tournament in California, Pauline del Rosario, Sofia Chabon, Fil-Japanese Yuka Saso and Sam Martirez, who make up the formidable TCC team handled by swing coach Bong Lopez.

Harmie Constantino and Junia Gabasa are some of the other notables in the field.

Listup is ongoing, For details, call the organizing NGAP at 09175607074, (02)9250022/7065926 or through email at [email protected]. Players may register at Apo Golf through (82) 2972090 / 2150. Entry forms may be downloaded from www.ngaponline.net.

Superal averted a late meltdown in her 36-hole title clash with Mexican champion Marijosse Navarro, prevailing with a par on the first extra hole that highlighted a successful summer campaign by the Laguna-based squad in the US.

Arevalo, meanwhile, also won via a playoff over Del Rosario in a Ping Summer Series event. Both have also been playing well and are tipped as the likely challengers to dethrone Superal.
