Gutang, Cruz lead winners in Special Swim Olympics
MANILA, Philippines - Christopher Gutang and Adrian Cruz stamped their class to lead the winners in the Special Olympics aquatics competitions at Diliman Preparatory School in Quezon City recently.
Gutang ruled the 50-meter breaststroke in 50.03 seconds and the 50-meter butterfly in 50.78 and took runner-up honors in the 100-meter and 50-meter freestyle events to emerge as the winningest competitor in Division A.
Similarly bringing home the bacon in two events in Division A was TJ Triviño, who reigned in the 100m freestyle (1:22.87) and 50m free (37.78) and placed second to Gutang in the 50m breast (55.01).
Cruz, for his part, dominated the 100m free in Division B, where he clocked 2:00.39 to beat Raymond Macasaet (2:14.00) and Austin Steveson Chang (2:50. 41) for the gold.
He also placed third in the 50m breast in 1:23.01 behind eventual winner Raymond Macasaet (1:11.00) and Austin Steveson Chang (1:22.00).
Joining Cruz and Macasaet in the division’s winners list were Jericho Naron (50m free) and Austin Steveson Chang (50m fly).
Naron submitted a winning 59.83 against Macasaet (1:00) and Chang (1:21) while Chang timed 1:20.50 to beat Macasaet for the plum.
Gino Perez topped the 25m freestyle in Division C with 31.76 while Naron won the 25m breast in 35.00.
