SEAG medalist reigns in school's Edu-Misyon

-

MANILA, Philippines - Southeaset Games silver medalist Mervin Guarte bested the big field to rule the 5K event of the second Stags Run 2012 dubbed “Takbo para sa Edu-Misyon” while national team mainstay Mercedita Manipol-Fetalvero reigned in the ladies run at the ASEANA City yesterday.

Guarte clocked 10 minutes and 36.52 seconds to top the one-day race organized by San Sebastian College-Recoletos to raise funds for SSC’s educational and charitable missions in Palawan and West Africa.

“I really wanted to win this race for the school,” said the 21-year-old Guarte in Filipino.

Leonar Casiple and Jujet de Asis came in second and third in 12:39.87 and 12:47.51, respectively, in the event that drew over 5,200 runners, surpassing the field in last year’s inaugurals of the event.

“It was a huge success,” said San Sebastian president Fr. Anthony Morillo, OAR, who also took part in the run. He also led the awarding of prizes along with Fr. Christopher Maspara, OAR, and Fr. Arnel Diaz, OAR.

Manipol-Fetalvero submitted a 14:23:08 clocking to dominate the ladies 5k side while Ferdinand Cruz and Michelle de Vera clocked 6:39.46 and 7:48.48, respectively, to top the 3k race.

Elmer Sabal and Cinderella Lorenzo, meanwhile, dominated their respective divisions in the 10K race co-organized by Dindo Bunag and San Sebastian athletic director Frank Gusi.

Sabal timed 21:57.75, unseating last year’s champion Justin Tabunda, who clocked 22:16.55 while Darwin Lim took third place with a 23:59.02 clocking.

Lorenzo topped the ladies side with a clocking of 27:13.83, defeating Janet Agura, who had 27:44.08.
