Rodriguez gains easy win in Night of Champions

First timer Fritz Rodriguez of La Salle got the mount in an early take down and needed only two big blows to force a helpless Dit Torres into submission in one of the bloody highlights of the recently-held Universal Reality Combat Championship 2 "Night of Champions" at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Torres, of the Philippine International Taekwondo Association, tried to get Rodriguez, of Gracie Barra Jiu-jitsu, in a headlock after the take down but the La Salle student got on the mounted position and delivered two deadly blows that forced his opponent to tap out to the cheers of over 4,000 fans.
The bout was part of the no-holds-barred 18-card event, a sequel to the successful maiden tournament held last November at the Casino Filipino.
The Night of Champions, patterned after the dangerous Ultimate Fight Challenge in the US, featured 10 previously unbeaten warriors -- Manuel "Cobra" Silvano from Muay Thai, Allan Co from Hybrid Yaw Yan, Richard Lasprillas of DEFTAC Jiu-jitsu, Glenn Sumanoy of DEFTAC Dumaguete, crowd favorite Larry "Pinoy" Montejo, a professional boxer, and Emerson Mateo of TRACMA.
Charlie Angel, 20, of "Way of the Champion", beat the devil out of Zaldy Intrigo, knocking him out in the second round with a 1-2 to the chin that nearly sent Intrigo out of the ring and into the Pearly Gates.
Glenn "The Slam Man" Sumanoy of DEFTAC Dumaguete, slammed his way to victory over Mateo. Sumanoy, a lean and mean fighter, proved that the laws of gravity do apply in the ring as he picked up Mateo and brought him down to the canvas with a thunderous crash.
Silvano ran out of venom against jiujitsuka Orlando Dulay, a well-built and powerful fighter who brought down the "Cobra" early in the fight and kept him on the canvas on a series of holds.
The "Cobra" escaped but made the fatal mistake of exposing his back to Dulay, who latched on to his neck and swung both feet above Silvano and sent "The Cobra" crash-landing to the canvas where Dulay punished him with three quick lefts.A stretcher carried The Cobra out of the ring.
