Nag-improve ang Philippine women�s volley team

MANILA, Philippines - Ipinakita na ng Philippine women’s national volleyball team ang malaking pagbabago matapos ang kanilang friendly match laban sa Okayama City Seagulls, 22-25, 14-25, 22-25, 20-25  noong Sabado sa Okayama City, Japan.

Umiskor si 6’5 Jaja Santiago ng 23 puntos kabilang na ang 20 atake at tatlong aces habang ang open spiker na si Alyssa Valdez ay tumipak din ng  17 puntos mula sa 15 atake at isang ace at isang kill block.

Kahit ang playmaker na si Kim Fajardo ay nagpakitang gilas din sa kanyang 40 excellent sets na may kasamang isang atake at isang ace at apat na puntos din mula sa team captain na si Mika Reyes na bumida sa middle blocker kapalit ng injured na si Abby Maraño.

“I like our progress in this early stretch of our training,”sabi ni head coach Francis Vicente pagkatapos ng laro na pinanood din ni Department of Foreign Affairs Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano, ang chairman ng organizing committee sa Asian Senior Women’s Championship sa Biñan City, Laguna at Muntinlupa City sa susunod na buwan.

“But we still have a lot to learn. We still have to perfect our blocking and floor defense as well as improve our composure in the crucial stretch of the match. There’s still room for improvement. We’re still a work in progress,” dagdag ni Vicente.

Ang magandang ipinakita ng national women’s team ay nagpa-engganyo rin sa Japanese coach na si Akiyoshi Kawamoto.

“Your team did great job. There were some lapse on defense, but overall, your team is doing good in training,” ayon kay Kawamoto.

Ang national team ay magpapatuloy sa kanilang 17-day training ngayon bago lilipat sa Osaka, Japan at sasabak sa friendly matches laban ibat-ibang university at club teams.
