Roach tutulong ba kay Viloria o hindi?

MANILA, Philippines – Hindi pa sigurado kung makakasama ang kilalang trainer na si Freddie Roach ni Brian Viloria katulong sina chief assistant Marvin Somodio at long-time cutman Ruben Gomez sa pagharap ng Hawaiian Punch kay WBC flyweight champion Roman (Chocolatito) Gonzalez sa 12-round title bout sa Madison Square Garden sa New York City sa Sabado ng gabi (Linggo ng umaga sa Manila).

Umalis na sina Somodio at Gomez ng Los Angeles patungong New York kasama sina Viloria, ang kanyang asawang si Erica at anak na si Tyler noong Linggo. Sinabi ni Somodio na ang unang plano ay dumating si Roach ngayong linggo ngunit naging abala ito sa Wild Card Gym.

Inihahanda ni Roach sina Miguel Cotto para sa kanyang WBC middleweight title defense laban kay Saul Alvarez sa Las Vegas sa Nov. 21 gayundin si WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev ng Russia para sa pagharap nito sa challenger na si Lateef Kayode sa Kazan sa Nov. 4.

Sinabi ni Somodio na magdedesisyon si Roach kung tutulong sa corner ni Viloria ngayon o bukas.

“If Freddie can’t make it, Ruben and I will work Brian’s corner together,” sabi ni Somodio na siyang head cornerman sa knockout win ni Viloria kontra kay Hernan (Tyson) Marquez sa unification ng WBA at WBO flyweight titles sa Los Angeles noong 2012.

“Freddie is busy with Cotto and Lebedev at Wild Card.  One of us has to stay behind to take care of them. But let’s see if Freddie can rework his schedule. Whatever he decides, Ruben and I will be ready for Brian’s fight. Brian knows what he has to do to win. We’re confident. Brian is strong.  He’s a flyweight who hits like a welterweight.  I like Brian’s chances against Chocolatito who’s a come-forward fighter and an easy target.  I think Chocolatito is tailor-made for Brian,” sabi pa ni Somodio.

Katatapos lang ni Roach sa pag-alalay kay  Ukrai- nian Viktor Postol kontra sa Argentinian na si Lucas Matthysse para sa bakanteng WBC superlightweight sa Los Angeles noong Oct. 3 kung saan tumulong si Somodio sa pagbebenta ng kamay ng boxer.
