Ika-2 Pinoy patay sa Hawaii wildfire; 2 iba pa kinukumpirma — DFA
MANILA, Philippines — Nadagdagan pa ng isang Filipino ang nasawi sa kaliwa't kanang sunog sa Hawaii, USA, pagkukumpirma ng Department of Foreign Affairs ngayong Lunes.
Kinilala ni Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega ang biktima bilang si Rodolfo Rocutan, 76-anyos, ayon sa balitang natanggap ng gobyerno mula kay Consul General Emilio Fernandez mula Hawaii.
"Among the 5, the Philippine Consulate in Honolulu was able to verify that Mr. Rodolfo, 76, a resident of Lahaina, renewed his Philippine passport at the Consulate in 2022, and is thus confirmed to have been a Filipino citizen at the time of death," ani De Vega sa Philstar.com.
"The Consulate has reached out to a relative of the late Mr. Rocutan to convey its deepest sympathies and offer the Philippine government’s support and assistance, including cremation and repatriation of remains as requested."
Sinundan ni Rocutan ang pagkamatay ng kapwa Pilipinong si Alfredo Galinato na siya ring taga Lahaina.
Umabot na sa 114 katao ang pumanaw dulot ng mga sunog sa Maui County. Sinasabing kumalat ito dahil sa pagkatuyo ng mga halaman dulot ng mainit na panahon.
"The Consulate is still verifying reports that two more of the 5 [more casualties] are Filipino nationals," dagdag pa ni De Vega.
"Once again, the Philippine nation expresses its [deepest] sympathies to the families of all the victims of this tragedy."
Mabagal na aksyon?
Humaharap ngayon sa kritisismo ang administrasyon ni US President Joe Biden dahil diumano sa bagal ng pagresponde sa sakunang nakaapekto sa 12,000 katao.
Ilang residente naman ang una nang nanggalaiiti sa mga opisyales ng Maui dahil sa kabiguang magpatunog ng alarm system habang sumisiklab ng apoy.
"I know the feeling that many people in this town, this community (have); that hollow feeling you have in your chest like you're being sucked into a black hole," ani Biden sa mga survivor ng sunog.
"We're with you for as long as it takes, I promise you, by making sure your voices are heard."
"We're gonna rebuild the way that the people of Maui want to build. The fire cannot reach the roots. That's Maui. That's America."
