Karatekas magte-training sa Turkey

MANILA, Philippines — Dahil hindi siya nakauwi ng Pilipinas para sa ‘bubble’ training ng national karatedo team sa Inspire Sports Academy sa Calamba, Laguna ay inaasahang makakasama ni national karateka Joane Orbon ang kanyang mga teammates sa Turkey.

Plano ng Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation (KPSF) na magkaroon ng training camp ang kanilang anim na national karatekas sa Turkey sa Marso hanggang Mayo.

“It’s not at the peak level as it was last year at this time, but we’re all starting from ground zero, we’re all starting over again,” wika ni Orbon, umangkin ng bronze medal sa women’s -61kg division noong 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Maliban kay Orbon, nakabase sa San Francisco, USA, ang lima pang naghahangad ng tiket sa 2021 Olympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan ay sina Jamie Lim (+61 kg), Fil-Japanese Junna Tsukii (55 kg), Alwyn Batican (67 kg), Ivan Agustin (75 kg) at Sharief Afif (+75 kg).

Tanging sina Lim, Batican, Agustin at Afif ang nasa loob na ng ‘Calambubble’ kasama sina sparring partner Jason Macaalay at coaches Sonny Montalvo at Jonel Perania.

Paghahandaan ng mga national karatekas ang World Qualifiers sa Paris, France sa Hunyo 11-13 na siyang pinakahuling qualifying tournament para sa 2021 Tokyo Oympics na nakatakda sa Hulyo 23 hanggang Agosto 8.

Kasama ng national karatedo team sa ‘Calambubble’ ang mga national squad ng boxing at taekwoondo.
