From wings to wheels
MANILA, Philippines — In 2020, a global pandemic took over the lives of everyone, many Filipinos lost their jobs including those who worked overseas. They had to come back home with only a few resources left to provide for their families.
Due to travel bans and limited flights caused by the global pandemic, Princess Ybañez, a 24-year-old flight attendant based in Qatar had to rest her wings in March 2020 and came to her home in Sibonga, Cebu.
As she temporarily rests her wings, Ybañez decides to get into business where she can earn from the comforts of her own home. She then discovered distributorship and online franchising business.
Upon learning about toktok, a delivery service app that was launched last December 2020 which offered online franchising, she did not hesitate to try a new kind of business, realizing that delivery is in demand especially now that many are still staying home and relies only with delivery for their needs.
She started to operate her delivery in January with one rider who is from Manila and as soon as she learned about the service and operation expansion in Visayas and Mindanao, Ybañez started to hire riders from her hometown by posting on Facebook.
For her, what’s important now is that her riders be able to get their daily income.
“Marami akong riders na mababait, sabi nila na kahit malayo yung delivery okay lang. Kaya effort po ako talaga sa kanila sa pagbibigay ng bookings. Iniisip ko lang lagi na may mai-uuwi sila sa families nila,” said Ybañez.
As she mentioned, she feels overwhelmed that she is able to help her riders earn a living and bring food to their families after a day’s work.
As a former overseas Filipino worker, Ybañez sees online franchising as a good opportunity for many Filipinos, especially to OFWs who need to sacrifice being away from their families. “Malaking opportunity ang pag online franchise ng toktok para sa mga Filipino dahil mag-i-earn sila kahit nasa bahay lang, hindi at risk yung health nila at ng family nila,” says Ybañez.
According to her, since many are on their mobile phones, it is best to use their time wisely by earning with online franchising, you need not to go outside the house, spend money on transportation or go outside of the country and be away from your family.
With online franchising, Ybañez was able to make ends meet and help her riders.
