New flags to be distributed in schools
MANILA, Philippines — Some 10,000 new flags will be distributed to public schools nationwide this year as part the government’s efforts to promote respect and recognition of the National Flag.
The Department of Education (DepEd) signed a partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Ayala Foundation and Chooks-to-Go of Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. for the #MagingMagiting Flag Campaign, which aims to distribute new flags to all public schools across the country.
Education Undersecretary Tonisito Umali, who led the initial distribution of the flags to schools in the Division of Quezon City last week, said the campaign aims to enjoin the prominent display of the National Flag in all public buildings, official residences, public plazas and institutions of learning as mandated by the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.
“This is very important because for the very first time, in partnership with Ayala Foundation, Chooks-to-Go and NHCP, we have a campaign that aims to strengthen the recognition of our flags by giving new ones to schools,” he said.
NHCP executive director Ludovico Badoy said they plan to distribute 10,000 flags to elementary schools this year.
“We would like to instill to children love for our nation by giving new flags to 10,000 schools. This will teach them how to properly honor and respect our flag while they are still young,” Badoy added.
The DepEd said flag distribution events will also be held in other regions throughout the year.
