SMLC launches 1st Student Innovation Awards

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — In today’s fast-paced society, advancements happen in the blink of an eye. Modern improvements in systems and technology have enabled people to develop creative breakthroughs stemming from even the smallest of ideas. It is most inspiring to know that many of these novel concepts come from the youth.

This year, St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) is inviting all third to fifth year college students nationwide to join its first Innovations Designed for Excellence and Advancement (IDEA) Student Innovation Awards.

St. Luke’s Medical Center pillars itself on social responsibility and innovation, and is committed to the discovery of unique concepts that will be of valuable service to the rest of the community.

Thus, the St. Luke’s Student Innovation Awards aims to recognize young, bright ideas and to uncover new ways in delivering quality health care. This endeavor is also endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education, in accordance with the Higher Education Act of 1994, which ensures the advancement of learning and research.

Students are encouraged to submit their entries, either as individuals or as a group, under the theme, “A Safer, Sustainable, and Connected World.”

Entries can be any inventive, original development in medical or technological advancement geared toward creating health care solutions.

The winners will be chosen by a panel of subject matter specialists and selected experts through rigorous assessment on each submission’s novelty, robustness, impact, adaptability and clarity.

Winning students will be awarded in February 2019, and will receive cash and special prizes.

For submission of entries, students must download the contest application form from the SLMC website, and submit a five-page project proposal, along with the YouTube link to a 60-second video presentation on or before Dec. 16. Requirements must be sent to [email protected].

For more information, contact the Student Innovation Awards Team at 7230101 ext. 4720 or 4721. You may also visit the SLMC website at www.stlukes.com.ph, or the official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/StLukesPH.
