Miriam College names first deaf ‘amazing alumni’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Miriam College (MC), through the Maryknoll/Miriam College Alumni Association (MMCAA), has named its first deaf Amazing Alumni Awardee.

The recipient, Dianne Salazar, graduated valedictorian at MC-Southeast Asian Institute for the Deaf (MC-SAID) in 2003 and at the Miriam Adult Education in 2017 where she is a recipient of Gawad Pangkahusayan Award.

“Graduating as high school valedictorian, obtaining a scholarship…and putting up an online business while working full time and tending to her hearing-impaired husband and two hearing kids, Diane clearly lives a full life with a high standard of excellence,” MMCAA chair Elaine Gavino-Urbano said.

“For many of us, hearing-impaired or not, we would get tired just looking at the list of all that she does and has done, let alone imagining ourselves in her shoes.  She is an inspiration to all,” she added.

Salazar is one of the inspiring deaf graduates who has opened the gates for deaf students at the Miriam Adult Education. Her resilience continues to move her career forward in business and in her work at the LINK Center for the Deaf.
