Banat Opinyon

Bending the law

IYO ANTOY - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Mao na kini ang uso karon, sa Tagalog pa, “Paikutin ang batas;” in Cebuano, “Baliko-on, or Tuison ang balaod.” (translation kini sa google). Duna koy idugang: Paglubag sa balaud, to twist the law.

Sa Readers Views page sa The Freeman, si Giel Eduard A. Orillosa, opined, titled: The rule of law or the rule of bending.

Matud niya: “In any democratic country, the law is supposed to be the highest standard. It should guide leaders, protect citizens, and ensure fairness for all. It should not change depending on who is in power or who is being judged.”

Mao unta kana ang balaud, paggiya sa mga leaders, pagpanalipod ug paghatag ug kaangayan sa katawhan, “But in recent times, many people have begun to question whether the rule of law is still being followed strictly, or whether it is slowly turning into something else; the rule of bending,”padayon ni Orillosa.

Moreover, padayon ni Orillosa: “No one is above the law. Not politicians, not officials, not powerful individuals. When this principle is weakened, justice becomes uncertain. Decisions begin to depend not only on facts and evidence, but also on influence, position, and timing.”

In case waa mo makabasa sa mga apprehension ug anxiety ni Orillosa on the rule of law, read the July 10 issue of The Freeman.

Niay good news: “SM invests P8B to make Cebu a global events hub.” The Freeman, nagkanayon:   “SM Prime Holdings Inc. is doubling down on Cebu with an P8 billion investment in an integrated entertainment, convention and hospitality complex, that would fuel a new wave of demand for global events, sports competitions and business gatherings.”

Nindota no?

“My father has always believed in Cebu,” matud ni Hans Sy. Kinsa man ni siya? Tubag sa google: “Hans Sy is the fourth child of the late retail and business magnate Henry Sy Sr., and a key leader in the Philippines' largest conglomerate, the Sy family's SM Group, with an estimated net worth of over $2.2 billion, and Chairman of the Board for both China Banking Corporation and National University.

Ilang motto, or maxim nga gibilin ni Henry Sy: “Stay humble, never show off.”
