Tron comes to schools

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

To increase students’ interest in science and technology, the new educational TRON comics will be distributed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to selected public schools in the country.

Tron, DOST’s mascot, is a young, cool, strong, fast-moving, dependable and intellectual super hero.

The department believes that TRON will be able to stir the interest of Filipino children in science and technology.

Director Ester Ogena of the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) which is in charge of the distribution, said 10,000 copies of TRON comics would be initially delivered to selected public elementary schools nationwide.

“We are optimistic that as we venture into this learning experience, we would be able to encourage more gifted and talented students to appreciate science and technology. Through TRON comics, science concepts will not be so far-fetched to our students,” Ogena said.

Ogena said comic books are effective forms of instruction since they are motivating, visual, permanent, intermediary, and popular.
