‘PNP high satisfaction rating shows safer communities’

MANILA, Philippines — The high public trust and satisfaction ratings of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is an indication that more Filipinos feel safer in the country under the administration of President Marcos, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the latest OCTA Research survey showed that the ongoing reforms within the PNP and the intensified police visibility are starting to restore public confidence in law enforcement.

He cited the survey results, which showed 63 percent of Filipinos trust the PNP while 61 percent is satisfied with the police force’s performance.

“This is not just about numbers in a survey. It means more Filipinos are beginning to feel safer in their communities again,” Remulla said in a statement.

After the strict enforcement of ordinances under the Safer Cities initiative in Metro Manila, Remulla noted crimes have gone down by up to 40 percent.

“Rape is down by 80 percent, physical injuries are down by 60 percent, theft is down by 30 percent. So many crime metrics went down,” Remulla said.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the absence of the PNP from the Anti-Red Tape Authority or ARTA list of most complained government agencies is proof that the police force’s cleansing drive and modernized operational strategies are working.

“Our absence from the ARTA list is not a result of chance but a product of a deliberate and aggressive internal cleansing program. We have shifted to a proactive organization,” Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.
