Final monsoon strength felt tomorrow; cooler weather seen

MANILA, Philippines — Strong winds brought by the final strength of the northeast monsoon or amihan will be felt across the country starting tomorrow, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said that cooler temperatures would prevail from tomorrow to Sunday.

“We are expecting cooler temperatures in many places especially in mountainous areas, particularly in extreme Northern Luzon,” Estareja said.

PAGASA said the temperature in Baguio City may dip to 11 degrees Celsius.

Metro Manila may expect lower temperatures, with forecasts at 21 to 29 degrees Celsius.

Estareja said this might be the strongest and the last surge of the monsoon before the dry season starts by end of this month.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical storm and given the international name Nuri.

The weather disturbance was spotted 1,265 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, packing winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of 80 kph.

Nuri will have a low chance of entering PAR as it is moving eastward slowly, PAGASA said.
