CAAP extends notice over Mayon, Kanlaon

MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has extended the Notice to Airmen covering flights in the vicinity of Mayon and Kanlaon Volcanoes, with CAAP advising against flying within 11,000 feet from the surface.
According to CAAP, the notice for Mayon Volcano was issued at 7:47 a.m. on Jan. 4 and extended until 9 a.m. today.
The notice for Kanlaon Volcano issued on Jan. 5 is also extended until 9 a.m. today.
Flight operators are advised to avoid flying close to the volcanos, which both remain under Alert Level 2.
Pilots are strongly cautioned against flying near the volcanoes as ashes from possible sudden phreatic eruptions pose a serious hazard to aircraft safety.
