PAGASA sees 2 weather disturbances next week

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —  While the chance of a tropical cyclone remains unlikely, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of two weather disturbances that might drench parts of Visayas and Mindanao next week, PAGASA announced.

“Forecasts indicate that a tropical cyclone-like vortex (TCLV) will emerge near the eastern part of Mindanao with a low likelihood of development (into a tropical cyclone),” PAGASA said, referring to the period from Dec. 17 to 23.

It said the system “will likely remain quasi-stationary near the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao” from Dec. 24 to Dec. 30.

PAGASA said another TCLV will emerge in the same period  “near Southern Palawan with a low chance of (tropical cyclone) development.”

The agency expects up to two tropical cyclones to form or enter the country this month, starting with the country’s 23rd tropical cyclone for 2025 – tropical depression Wilma.

Meanwhile, the intertropical convergence zone will bring “cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms” over Caraga and Davao regions in Mindanao and in Palawan.
