MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has imposed a preventive suspension on a taxi driver involved in a viral hit-and-run accident along Alabang-Zapote Road in Las Piñas City.

A video posted on the Facebook page “Las Piñas Update” showed the taxi being chased and surrounded by concerned citizens after the driver allegedly rammed a vehicle and bystanders in the Molito area before fleeing.

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao directed the registered owner and driver of the GSM taxi to appear today at the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division in Quezon City.

The LTO also placed the driver’s license under a 90-day preventive suspension and tagged the vehicle with an “alarm” status.

“As part of our commitment to road safety, we will hold erring motorists accountable. We will not tolerate behavior that endangers lives,” Lacanilao said.

The LTO said failure to comply with the show-cause order would be considered a waiver of the taxi driver’s right to be heard.
