P803 million fake goods seized in Metro Manila
MANILA, Philippines — Counterfeit products amounting to P803 million have been confiscated in Manila, Pasay and Valenzuela, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said over the weekend.
Up to 19,546 fake Oakley eyewear, 42,258 Ray-Ban sunglasses and Luxottica prescription glasses were seized on Aug. 5 in Binondo, Manila and in Pasay.
In Valenzuela, authorities found 6,293 finished and unfinished products with fake WD-40 trademarks, as well as 270 fake WD-40 canisters and business documents valued at P3 million.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago commended the agency’s personnel for enforcement efforts, stressing the need to protect intellectual property rights holders.
To help spur economic growth, he discouraged the public from patronizing fake goods.
