NBI seizes P10 million frozen products
MANILA, Philippines — Authorities confiscated over P10 million worth of smuggled frozen products at a cold storage facility in Paco, Manila on Wednesday night.
According to National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago, the facility stored frozen meat, peking ducks and onions without the necessary permits.
“It appears that these products were smuggled because workers could not provide any documents,” Santiago said.
The NBI gave the owners of the cold storage facility 24 hours to show documents allowing them to import frozen products.
A caretaker of the facility named Meynard identified his boss only as Jay, who speaks Filipino.
Meynard said a Chinese man known only as Jerry is leasing the facility.
The owners of the facility will face charges under the Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act, according to Commodore Oliver Tanseco of the Coast Guard Investigation and Detection Management Service.
