NCRPO cracks down on fake motorcycle taxi riders

MANILA, Philippines — Police have started the crackdown on fake transport riders allegedly involved in robberies and other crimes.
The crackdown started on June 6 with inspections of major bus terminals in Cubao, Quezon City.
The joint operations were conducted by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Highway Patrol Group and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
The NCRPO said ride-hailing app Joyride sought police help amid concern that some people are using uniforms of its motorcycle riders while engaging in unlawful acts.
“This operation is a reflection of our swift and responsive public service, our unity with partner agencies and our accountability to protect the public from criminal elements who exploit trust and identity,” NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said.
The NCRPO has deployed uniformed personnel and covert operatives in places of convergence.
These areas include Bel-Air, Salcedo and San Antonio villages in Makati; Malate, Manila; Mall of Asia in Pasay; Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, and Entertainment City in Parañaque.
