DepEd recovers P65 million voucher claims from 54 schools
MANILA, Philippines — Fifty-four private schools have been ordered to return P65 million in misused subsidy under the Senior High School (SHS) voucher program, according to the Department of Education.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said the 54 schools have been terminated from the SHS voucher program amid a probe on anomalies in the implementation of the financial assistance for students in private schools.
Angara said these schools had been flagged for irregularities in voucher claims for academic years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.
Of the 54 schools, 38 have fully refunded the government and two have made partial refunds.
While the DepEd has recovered P65 million in voucher claims, the agency will further investigate the matter to determine whether the irregularities constitute fraud.
Cases involving three schools flagged by the Government Assistance and Subsidies Service have been forwarded to the National Bureau of Investigation for a parallel probe.
